What Is Restoration?
Restoration, in this context, refers to the process of mitigating damages and restoring property that has suffered damages due to some abnormal event, such as flooding, storms, sewer damage, sump pump failure, hail storms, fire, or other similar causes. Restoration seeks to return property to its pre-loss condition.
The restoration process
The restoration process begins with discovery of the issue and the cause followed by actions to stop further damage of the same nature, such as replacing a sump pump when it fails, or shutting off the main water connection to a building that is flooding due to broken pipes. The insurance company is typically notified at this point, and they refer you to RestorU.
Next, an assessment is conducted of the damages. This determines the overall scope of the project, but other issues may arise as the investigation continues.
The necessary mitigation steps follow with water being extracted, windows being boarded-up, and other precautions to prevent further damages.
Next, personal belongings, business materials, and debris are removed, the surfaces are cleaned, and then sanitized to prevent contamination and ensure the property will be safe for you to return.
Rebuilding and reconstruction replaces the damaged structures, including walls, their insulation and drywall, flooring, and electrical and plumbing fixtures, as necessary.
Damage Restoration & Mitigation Aspects
Restoration begins by ensuring that the damaging elements have ceased, removing harmful hazardous materials, hazardous mold growth, damaged drywall and wood, personal belongings, business assets, furniture, papers and files, and all other damaged items.
Drying
Restoration also entails drying structures and materials damaged by water, and mitigating further damage to make the space safe and habitable, often preventing long-term structural issues.
Sanitization
Once dry, the restoration process continues with Sanitization of the property and any items to be returned to use and removing odors.
Bio-hazard Cleanup
Hazardous materials need special care and cautions. Bio-hazard cleanup involves removing those hazardous materials, cleaning the area, and sanitizing it.
Water Damage Restoration
Water damage restoration involves extracting water, using dehumidifiers and fan to dry materials, and preventing further mold growth.
Fire & Smoke Restoration
Fire and smoke restoration focuses on removing damaged structural materials and debris, cleaning soot, removing odors, and then mitigation of the structure including rebuilding homes and offices.
Mold Remediation
Mold remediation involves identifying the source of the mold and mildew, and then isolating it, removing it, cleaning it up, and sanitizing the surfaces affected by the mold.
Content Restoration
Content restoration involves salvaging property, such as furniture and personal belongings, and business property such as electronics.
